About Us

Offering emergency veterinary services to our area of the Lowcountry has been a goal of Dr. Matthew Tenwolde since becoming a permanent resident to Bluffton in 2019. In the short amount of time we have been open, Carolina Veterinary Critical Care has helped over 100,000 patients! We believe in working closely with your family veterinarian in a team-based approach to provide high quality continuity of care. From emergency surgical procedures to hospitalization, post-op supervised overnight patient care, and more, our services allow for pets to get urgent care, sooner.

How We Do Things

Different than a normal visit to the vet, emergency situations tend to be highly emotional, stressful and intense for a lot of owners. For this reason, functioning curbside has proven to offer clients their privacy to communicate with our doctors, understand the potential crisis their pet is in and let us tend to their family member.

Upon arrival, our staff works together to triage patients from Priority 1 (life threatening measures may need to be taken ie: heat stroke, road traffic accident, difficulty breathing, poisoning) to Priority 2 (likely to recover if care is given within hours ie: diarrhea, urinary tract problems, actively vomiting) to Priority 3 (not immediately life threatening ie: skin conditions, lameness, sore eyes/ears). For this reason, if you are waiting to have your pet seen, we ask for your understanding that our staff may be working to save a life.
